Just search for the UMF Trademark. Unique Mānuka Factor is the only independently acknowledged quality trademark and grading system on the Mānuka market. If a UMF Trademark appears on the label, the product within has been identified as natural Mānuka honey, guaranteeing its purity and quality - the greater the UMF level, the better. The UMF grade reflects the real purity of the honey and confirms that it has been independently analysed to identify the molecular markers contained in Mānuka honey: methylglyoxal, leptosperin, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Authentic UMF Mānuka honey is evaluated using three naturally occurring, distinctive chemical markers: leptosperin, DHA, and methylglyoxal (MGO).
Methylglyoxal (often referred to as MGO) is frequently the only factor assessed by producers; unfortunately, this has a huge drawback in that MGO may be chemically added to honey, which means that conventional honey can easily claim to be Mānuka honey.
Leptosperin is a unique indicator of Mānuka honey because it is exclusively found in the Mānuka flower. To ensure that you are purchasing authentic Mānuka honey from New Zealand-grown Leptosperin, seek for the UMF seal.
DHA indicates the age of honey. Before packaging, the honey's age is determined.
